Engaging Faith and Community Organizations at Dept of Education
Last month the U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that engaging faith and community organizations is a top-level priority for future discretionary grant competitions of the U.S. Department of Education. This priority reflects the essential role that faith and community organizations serve in driving education innovation and student achievement. It was added to federal regulations after an extensive public comment period.
The new priority “School Engagement, School Environment, and School Safety and Family and Community Engagement,” will advance projects that are designed to improve student outcomes through several means including “improving community engagement…by supporting partnerships between local education agencies, school, staff, and…Faith- or community-based organizations.”
