Community Leaders Briefing Series: Catholic Charities

On Friday, October 14th Catholic Charities and their affiliates joined the Office of Public Engagement’s weekly Community Leaders Briefing Series. The briefing series is a unique opportunity for grassroots leaders to start a two way dialogue with the White House about issues that are affecting their communities and to ensure that they are well-informed about government policies and programs and how they can use or maximize these resources.
Not only did Catholic Charities comprise one of our largest groups to date, but also brought with them a strong voice in support of social justice and creating pathways of opportunity for all Americans.
David Kamin, Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, gave an overview of how components of the American Jobs Act would benefit the organizations represented in the room and allow them to continue their important service in a tough economy. Brad Cooper, Executive Director of Joining Forces, highlighted the invaluable perspective these participants gain from their daily work. He also gave insight to current Joining Forces initiatives, and encouraged collaboration between the Federal Government and communities around the country. Chief of Staff Bill Daley stopped by to thank these community leaders for their hard work, and stuck around to answer a few questions.
Participants wrapped up their day at the White House by attending breakout sessions to engage in candid conversation with White House and Agency staff. All in attendance left the briefing eager to return to their communities armed with new ideas, more insight, and stronger partnerships.
