Carol’s son Justin was born with a rare genetic lung disorder and survived a traumatic brain injury four years ago. He graduated from college last December. Because of the health care law, he’s able to stay on his father’s plan, which means he can consider the possibility of going to law school instead of spending his time and resources trying to find health insurance.

Health insurance is supposed to be there when you most need it, but if your medical issue is considered a preexisting condition, you may be out of luck. Fortunately for Tracy, with the Affordable Care Act, it illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage to children because of preexisting conditions, and so she is able to afford medical care for her son Sami.

When a child is seriously ill, a parent shouldn’t have to worry that an insurer would deny coverage due to the child’s pre-existing condition. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, Alycia Steinberg no longer worries that her daughter won't get the treatment she needs
