Champions of Change
Carolyn Ward, Ph.D. serves as the CEO of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, the primary philanthropic partner to the Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the most visited units of the National Park System. Carolyn was brought to the Foundation in 2008 to start the Kids in Parks Initiative, which designs and implements programs to connect children to the outdoors and address the health problems associated with physical inactivity. Carolyn has worked as a field practitioner, a consultant, a researcher, and an instructor of interpretation. Her current position involves her working collaboratively with the National Park Service, State Parks, local community groups, the Cherokee Nation and numerous non-profit organizations that are united around the goal of getting more kids moving in the great outdoors.
