Texas Book Festival
Texans had long dreamed of a festival commemorating the state's
long-standing literary tradition. In late 1995, with the backing of Laura
Bush, a former librarian and an ardent advocate of reading, the dream
became a reality.
Under Mrs. Bush's guidance as Honorary Chair, a task force began planning
the festival. Gradually, the vision crystallized. Within a few years, the
Texas Book Festival has become one of the premier literary festivals in
the country.
Now in its ninth year, the Texas Book Festival is more than a
celebration of books and Texas writers; it's also a celebration of the
joys of reading and a benefit for the public libraries of the Lone Star
State. The ninth annual Texas Book Festival will be October 30-31, 2004,
at the State Capitol in Austin. Laura Bush, now First Lady of the United
States, continues to serve as Honorary Chairman.
