Mrs. Laura Bush tours the Treasury at Petra, a biblical city carved into stone, in southern Jordan Friday, Oct. 26, 2007. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and designated as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World in July 2007. A regional trading center, Petra prospered from the first century BCE until the first century AD, when it fell to the Romans in 106 AD. White House photo by Shealah Craighead

Mrs. Laura Bush tours the Petra Church with Dr. Barbara Porter, Director of the American Center for Oriental Research, during a walk through the ancient city that included homes, a temple, an amphitheater and royal tombs. The church was discovered in 1973 by an American archeologist. It's estimated that the church was built in the fifth century and included three apses.
