Nuclear Power 2010

The program seeks to expand the number of new advanced nuclear power plants (Generation III+) in the United States. It supports intermediate-term technology development and regulatory demonstration activities affecting siting, and construction and operation of new plants.

  • Supporting two industry cost-shared agreements to demonstrate the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's new combined Construction and Operating License process and complete demonstrations of the NRC's Early Site Permitting process.
  • Establishing an earned value management system, certified by the Defense Contract Management Agency, for the two Nuclear Power 2010 projects to ensure effective cost and schedule management control.

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • The Office of Nuclear Energy continues to support industry cost-shared agreements with the goal of having industry decide whether to construct a new nuclear power plant by 2010.
  • The Office of Nuclear Energy is working closely with its industry partners to collect timely cost and schedule data to help ensure effective program management controls.
