Increasing Security along the Southwest Border

2013 National Southwest Border Counternarcotics Strategy

The National Southwest Border Counternarcotics Strategy is a key component of a comprehensive national response to threats along the Southwest border. Launched for the first time in 2009 and updated in 2011, the strategy outlines Federal, State, local, tribal and international actions that will substantially reduce the flow of illicit drugs, cash, and weapons across the border. The Strategy also includes support for promoting strong border communities by expanding access to drug treatment and supporting programs that break the cycle of drug use, violence, and crime. Developed collaboratively, this strategy complements the National Drug Control Strategy and supports our broader homeland security efforts.
