We honor their contributions to the Nation and welcome their vigorous participation in helping to develop, shape, and implement the recommendations presented in this Report. Investing in Puerto Rico’s Transportation Infrastructure: Creating Jobs, Expanding Opportunity, and Reducing Congestion

As I drove through Kennedy Avenue on my way to Guaynabo, a city in the northeast of Puerto Rico, I was lucky not to be confronted with the same traffic jam that I usually face right before I reach the intersection with “la Carretera Número Dos” (PR-2). There are fewer cars on the road because today is the eve of “el Día de los Tres Reyes Magos,” (Three Kings Day), which is the holiday celebrated here in Puerto Rico and throughout Latin America on the Day of the Epiphany. On most Three Kings days, I would wake up early to discover the presents the “Reyes” had left under the Christmas tree in the home I grew up in, which is right around the corner from that busy intersection. Every time I come back to Puerto Rico the traffic ...

To help fill this gap, NTIA awarded Puerto Rico two Recovery Act grants to expand and enhance broadband infrastructure.  While I was in San Juan earlier this month at the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Telecom Conference, I had the opportunity to visit one of these projects. I joined members of Critical Hub staff and Puerto Rico Chief Information Officer Juan Eugenio Rodriguez on a tour of Critical Hub’s data center facilities in San Juan, part of its Puerto Rico Bridge Initiative (PRBI) BTOP project . Critical Hub Networks , which received a $25.6 million ...
