Readout of President Obama's Meeting on the Reauthorization of ESEA

Today, President Obama had a productive meeting with Senators Tom Harkin, Mike Enzi, Jeff Bingaman, and Lamar Alexander and Representatives John Kline, George Miller, Duncan Hunter, and Dale Kildee.  The President commended the Members for their commitment to reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and the bipartisan, bicameral nature of their efforts.  During the meeting, the President conveyed the urgent need to fix No Child Left Behind and reshape federal policy to achieve real reform.   He discussed the need to raise expectations, increase teacher effectiveness and results for students, provide flexibility for innovation and improvement in the education system, and incentivize and reward success in order to win the future and out-educate the world.
