Statement by NSC Spokesperson Caitlin Hayden on National Security Advisor Rice’s Meeting with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia

Today National Security Advisor Susan E. Rice met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia at the White House. During their meeting, Ambassador Rice and President Hassan Sheikh discussed ways to support Somalia as it seeks to strengthen its democratic institutions and promote economic development. They also reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to fighting the scourge of terrorism and expanding security throughout Somalia. The United States will continue to work with the Government of Somalia to promote security, advance development, and help create lasting peace and prosperity for all Somalis.
