Hi, everybody.  On Thursday, the President hosted the SelectUSA Summit for business leaders from around the world.  And his pitch was simple:  Choose America.  Invest in America.  Create jobs in America. With 40 percent of U.S. exports destined to our Western Hemisphere partners, trade with this region is responsible for creating jobs here in the United States.

That’s the President’s top priority: growing our economy, creating good jobs, strengthening security and opportunity for the middle class.

And over the past three and a half years, our businesses have created more than seven and a half million new jobs and Hispanic unemployment continues to fall but there is more work to be done.  And since President Obama took office our deficits have been cut by more than half.

Congress must pass a budget that grows our economy faster and shrinks our long-term deficits further by investing in ourselves.  We should cut outdated stuff we don’t need, and close wasteful tax loopholes that don’t help create jobs, so that we can free up resources for the things that actually do create jobs and help us grow.

Building new roads and bridges and schools and airports – that creates jobs.

Educating our kids and our workers for a global economy – that helps us grow.

Investing in scientific research and technology – that keeps our businesses and our military on the cutting edge.  It’s vital for our economic future.

The question isn’t between growth and fiscal responsibility; we need both.  In America prosperity has never trickled down from a fortunate few.  Our economy thrives when our middle class thrives.  And the mission of our Administration will continue to be to create jobs, grow our economy, and build a country where all families, including Hispanic families that work hard have a chance to get ahead.

Thanks, and have a great weekend.
