THURSDAY: President and First Lady to Join Hundreds of Congressional Family Members
for ‘United We Serve’ Service Project at Fort McNair
WASHINGTON, DC – On Thursday, June 25th, the President and First Lady will join hundreds of Congressional family members and five national nonprofit organizations to prepare 15,000 backpacks with books, healthy snacks, Frisbees and other items for the children of servicemen and women. The service event is part of United We Serve, President Obama’s call to all Americans to engage in service projects and create meaningful impact in their towns and communities. The United We Serve summer service initiative began June 22nd and runs through the National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11th. The initiative is being led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency dedicated to fostering service in communities across the country.
The service event will take place at 10:00 AM EDT on Thursday at Fort McNair, prior to the annual Congressional picnic.

Media Pre-set: 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM (All equipment must be dropped at the site by 7:00 AM; media will not have access to their equipment from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM)
Media Access: 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM (All members of the media who attend the event must arrive before 8:30 AM. There will be no access to Ft. McNair after 8:30 AM)

Cable run: 500 ft.
Live truck parking: Directed on site. All live trucks must RSVP with vehicle information. Live trucks should plan to be at the Second Street Gate by 6:00 AM.
All names submitted for credentials must be accurate and reflect the identification media presents at check points for entrance. RSVPs do not guarantee access. You will receive a confirmation e-mail if you will receive a credential to cover the event.
