General Federation of Women's Clubs White House Briefing

Summary:
The Council on Women and Girls recently hosted a White House Briefing for the General Federation of Women's Clubs. Over 100 women from across the country came to learn and ask questions about the Obama Administration’s agenda.

Recently, we welcomed the General Federation of Women’s Clubs into the White House. It was an honor to meet with a group so energized and focused on helping women, children, and families across the country.

At the briefing, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs heard from several White House Officials about many of the Obama Administration’s priorities. Greg Nelson, Deputy Director of the Office of Public Engagement, spoke about Energy Policy and encouraged the group to visit the A New Foundation for Energy and the Environment website. Allison Randall spoke about the work that she and Lynn Rosenthal, the White House Advisor on Violence Against Women, are doing on issues ranging from sexual assault, to protecting women in Native Country. Julie Moreno, from the Domestic Policy Council, discussed First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative and encouraged the group to visit the Let’s Move website. Finally, Kate Massey from the White House Office on Health Reform, spoke about the Affordable Care Act and how it is going to help members of the Federation. Kate encouraged everyone to visit the healthcare.gov website to learn more.

The briefing concluded with a question and answer session where Federation members talked about various issues in their communities. These issues ranged from job creation to healthcare and small business. The women had great questions and wanted to know how others could interact with the government without traveling to Washington.  This is very important to us, so we thought we would share our answer with you too– please contact us by emailing cwg@who.eop.gov or public@who.eop.gov
