Follow Along: The Cabinet Visits Manufacturers Across the Country

Summary:
The President and his Cabinet are commemorating National Manufacturing day by visiting manufacturers and innovators all across the country. Follow along here.

Today is National Manufacturing Day, and more than 1,600 U.S. manufacturers are opening their factories up to members of the public. They have a great story to tell: Our manufacturing sector is as competitive as it's been in decades for new jobs and investment.

The President is traveling to Princeton, Indiana, today, where he'll tour Millennium Steel and discuss the importance of continuing to invest in American manufacturing -- and members of his Cabinet will be doing the same thing all across the country.

We'll follow along with a couple Cabinet secretaries and officials today as they talk with American manufacturers and learn about the latest innovations in their businesses and on their factory floors.

Check back here for updates over the course of the day, or follow the hashtag #MfgDay14 on Twitter and Instagram.

“When our manufacturing base is strong, our entire economy is strong. Today, we continue our work to bolster the industry at the heart of our Nation. With grit and resolve, we can create new jobs and widen the circle of opportunity for more Americans.”

– President Barack Obama, National Manufacturing Day Proclamation

SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet heads to Delaware.

Small Business Administration Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet is in Milford, Delaware, today, visting with First State Manufacturering -- an industrial sewing company that is also the SBA's Delaware Small Business of the year.

Ambassador Mike Froman travels to Maryland.

Meanwhile, in Maryland, U.S. Trade Representative Mike Froman headed over to Zentech Manufacturing, a Baltimore-based small business that assembles circuit boards.

Meanwhile, Secretary Ernest Moniz heads to New York.

Department of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz is visiting Corning Incorporated in Corning, New York, where he's taking a look at their black-carbon-removing filtration systems -- which go into heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and off-road vehicles.

"It's great to get out of Washington to see how the public-private-labor partnership advances our goals. Here we see where manufacturing combined with clean energy really is a place that creates what the President like to call 'ladders of opportunity' for the middle class."

And Secretary Vilsack traveled to Baton Rouge.

All the while, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack heads down to SJTechs, which began as a startup supplying port cranes with sensor technologies, and now houses several small tech startup businesses.
