President Trump Introduces RAISE Immigration Reform Act

On Wednesday, President Donald J. Trump, alongside U.S. Senators Tom Cotton and David Perdue, unveiled legislation that would represent the most significant reform to our immigration system in half a century. The Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy (RAISE) Act will create a merit based immigration system that protects our economy, taxpayers, and American workers, while meeting the needs of the work force and encouraging innovation.

Throughout his campaign, President Trump urged the need to create a new merit-based system that protects U.S. workers and taxpayers. Our current immigration system is outdated and does not meet the diverse needs of our economy. Under the current policy, highly skilled immigrants are not prioritized and American citizens are under increasing pressure to compete for jobs against brand new arrivals.

The RAISE Act puts American workers first by prioritizing immigrants based on the skills they bring to our Nation, safeguarding the jobs of our citizens. It replaces the current permanent employment-visa framework with a skills based system that rewards applicants based on their individual merits. This reform to our immigration system will reward education, entrepreneurial initiative, and previous achievement.

President Trump is following through on his promise to reform our immigration system, keeping the interests of the American people at the forefront of his resolutions for our nation. This legislation will restore our competitive edge in the 21st century.
