Vice President Kamala Harris spoke today with President Sauli Niinistö of Finland to convey her appreciation for the close partnership and shared values between Finland and the United States. Vice President Harris and President Niinistö agreed on the importance of ongoing cooperation across a range of issues including global health, the environment, and security challenges. The Vice President thanked President Niinistö for Finland’s robust defense partnership with the United States and its climate leadership, especially in the Arctic. They discussed the need for more coordinated international action to address the root causes of migration from the Northern Triangle, and for sustained unity and vigilance to counter the destabilizing actions Russia continues to carry out across the Euro-Atlantic area. Vice President Harris and President Niinistö agreed on the importance of expanding science and technology research to ensure global competitiveness and on the urgency of building greater international preparedness for future health crises.
