Vice President Kamala Harris met yesterday with Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.  Vice President Harris underscored the importance of the U.S.-Barbados bilateral relationship and the United States’ commitment to the Caribbean more broadly.  The two leaders discussed the need to create economic opportunity in the region, including through efforts to accelerate COVID-19 recovery.  The Vice President thanked Prime Minister Mottley for her leadership, especially on issues related to the climate crisis.  The two leaders also discussed incorporating climate adaptation into economic recovery plans for the region.  Vice President Harris reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to work with countries like Barbados that do not contribute greatly to climate change, but suffer the impacts.  Vice President Harris and Prime Minister Mottley also exchanged views on how the United States and CARICOM can work together to support Haiti and the Haitian people.
