Vice President Kamala Harris spoke today with President Charles Michel of the European Council to affirm the U.S. commitment to strengthening cooperation with the European Union, a vital partner in managing the full range of current and future challenges. The Vice President lauded the essential work of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council to update the rules of the road for the 21st century economy in a way that reflects our shared democratic values. Vice President Harris and President Michel agreed on the need for concrete actions to create norms around critical and emerging technology and discussed the importance of cooperating in the Indo-Pacific region. The Vice President thanked President Michel for the EU’s humanitarian work around the world and welcomed close coordination on responding to crises and addressing the root causes of migration. They also agreed on the need for urgent international action on global health security to strengthen preparedness for future pandemics.
