Today, the White House Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy, in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services, hosted a Long-Term Care Facility Leadership Summit. Leaders from national associations and organizations and US government departments and agencies focused on options to help inform and protect our nations’ seniors and other vulnerable Americans in long-term care facilities during the upcoming 2024-2025 respiratory season from infections with flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID.

Three long-term care facility leaders from Winston Salem, NC, Saint Paul, MN, and Bergen, NJ were recognized for their extraordinary leadership in maintaining high vaccination coverage for residents and staff at their facilities. These leaders shared their experiences from the COVID-19 pandemic, best practices to provide vaccines to seniors in long-term care facilities, and creative tactics to inform the choices made by the residents and the staff regarding options to lower the risk of severe infections with COVID-19, flu, and RSV, including vaccines.

Updated recommendations on vaccines and additional resources designed to support long-term care providers and facility staff as they prepare for this fall and winter virus season are now available on the CDC website. This event is an example of how administration officials continue to partner with facility leaders, long-term care associations and experts across the US government to address the critical challenge of protecting some of our Nation’s most vulnerable Americans from becoming seriously ill during the annual respiratory season.

Administration Participants Included:

Maj Gen (ret) Paul Friedrichs, MD, FACS, Deputy Assistant to the President, Director of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy, The White House
