WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), issued a statement following President Biden’s State of the Union Address. Tonight, President Biden highlighted decisive actions the Administration is taking to address addiction and the overdose epidemic and called for historic funding for public health and supply reduction.

“The overdose epidemic is not a red state issue or a blue state issue. It affects all of Americans, and tonight, in his State of the Union, President Biden made the case for all Americans to work together to address it. He called on Congress for more funding to expand access to effective prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery support services, as well as to strengthen our efforts to stop the trafficking of illicit drugs. He urged further action to remove barriers that keep doctors and prescribers from treating addiction. Most importantly, he reminded all of us that those suffering from addiction are not alone and that recovery is possible.”
