PCAST Announces Workshop on Safeguarding America’s Groundwater Security: Addressing Challenges and Risks
The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) has initiated an effort on groundwater and is convening a one-day workshop to identify pressing challenges and to explore paths to better understand and manage this essential resource.
This event will take place at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona on Monday, July 22 from 9 AM – 5 PM MST with limited virtual participation also possible. The workshop will focus on three themes: governance and incentives, data gaps and opportunities, and community empowerment and engagement.
This workshop will assemble attendees from relevant government agencies, key community stakeholders, and private and academic sectors to identify opportunities, gaps, and priorities to continue to address groundwater sustainability. This event specifically provides an opportunity for PCAST Groundwater Working Group members to discuss possible recommendations that PCAST could make to the President on America’s groundwater risks.
Requests to participate closed on Tuesday, July 16th and maximum capacity has been reached for participants and observers.
Groundwater Working Group Co-Leads: Inez Fung, Joe Kiani, and Steve Pacala
Groundwater Working Group Members: Laura Greene and Cathie Woteki
