Dan E. Arvizu, PhD, is a mechanical engineer and an expert in energy materials, process sciences, and technology commercialization with more than 30 years of experience in various roles at the Department of Energy (DOE) National Laboratories.

  • Former Director and Chief Executive of DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and currently Director Emeritus. The first Hispanic to lead a DOE national laboratory.
  • Appointed by Presidents G.W. Bush and Obama to the National Science Board and served as Board Chair.
  • Higher education leader focused on harnessing education, research, and outreach initiatives to foster economic development and social mobility.
  • Member of U.S. National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Public Administration.
