Joining Forces Wellness Week 2015

Joining Forces is highlighting the health and wellness needs of our nation's veterans, service members, and their families.

For the fourth year in a row, Joining Forces Wellness Week will be held during the week of Veteran’s Day, from November 9-13. The aim of the week is to highlight the nuanced health and wellness needs of our nation’s veterans, service members and their families and to educate all types of health care providers. The Association of American Medical Colleges, the Center for Deployment Psychology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences the will join together to provide free virtual training to health providers and students across America.

Each day during Wellness Week, we’ll be hosting a webinar from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. ET. You can learn more about Joining Forces Wellness week and register for the webinars here. The Wellness Week schedule is below:

  • Nov. 9 — Service Culture of the Military and Implications for Health Providers
  • Nov. 10 — Generational Differences of Veterans and Service Members and Impact on Health
  • Nov. 11 — Incorporating Veteran and Military Health Curricula into Health Professions Education
  • Nov. 12 — Military and Veteran Families-Service and Resilience
  • Nov. 13 — Guard & Reserve: Insights and Resources

The Center for Deployment Psychology will host the webinars through its training platform, and content will be provided by presenters from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Center for Deployment Psychology, the George Washington University School of Medicine and the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences, the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Brigham Young University School of Nursing, the University of Colorado School of Medicine and the National Guard Bureau.

Since the First Lady and Dr. Biden launched Joining Forces is 2011, the medical community has stepped up and answered the call to provide quality support for veterans, service members, and their families. Next week will be a unique and fun opportunity for providers and students to gain additional cultural competency. Continuing Education credits will be provided for physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers and counselors. One (1) CME/CNE/CE credit will be awarded for each webinar attended.  Continuing education credits are provided by Tufts University School of Medicine, the Association of American Colleges of Nursing and PESI.
