Statement by the Press Secretary on H.R. 5325, H.R. 2615, H.R. 5252, H.R. 5936, H.R. 5937 and H.R. 5985

On Thursday, September 29, 2016, the President signed into law:

H.R. 5325, An Act making continuing appropriations for fiscal year 2017, and for other purposes;

H.R. 2615, the “Virgin Islands of the United States Centennial

Commission Act,” which establishes the Virgin Islands of the United States Centennial Commission to plan activities to commemorate the centennial of the Virgin Islands becoming an unincorporated U.S. territory;

H.R. 5252, which designates the United States Customs and Border Protection Port of Entry located at 1400 Lower Island Road in Tornillo, Texas, as the Marcelino Serna Port of Entry;

H.R. 5936, the “West Los Angeles Leasing Act of 2016,” which authorizes VA to enter into certain leases at the VA West Los Angeles Campus in Los Angeles, California;

H.R. 5937, which authorizes the American Battle Monuments Commission to acquire, operate, and maintain the Lafayette Escadrille Memorial; and

H.R. 5985, the “Department of Veterans Affairs Expiring Authorities Act of 2016,” which extends certain expiring authorities affecting veterans and their families, including:  (1) health care; (2) benefits; (3) homelessness; and (4) miscellaneous authorities, and authorizes a new authority related to payment of education benefits.
