WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, July 19th, Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), met with President Witold Banka and Vice President Yang Yang of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) — the single global regulator for anti-doping and sports.

During the meeting Dr. Gupta emphasized the United States’ focus on holding Russia accountable for its doping crimes, the need for WADA to ensure that the organization’s internal governance reforms were carefully implemented to promote the highest ethical standards, and to strengthen the voice of independent athletes and national anti-doping organizations. He also highlighted that the United States was working to promote closer Western Hemisphere collaboration on anti-doping through the Assembly of the American Sports Council (CADE).

President Banka thanked Dr. Gupta for initiating a discussion between WADA and the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) to discuss areas where the organizations could work together on anti-doping related research. Both President Banka and Dr. Gupta agreed they would look for other areas to work together to promote clean sport.
