Washington, D.C. –As the country is seeing historic declines in violent crime nationwide, states across the country are receiving over $276 million in new funding for law enforcement agencies that seize illicit drugs like fentanyl, prevent and reduce gun violence and other violent crime associated with drug trafficking, improve interdiction efforts through enhanced data sharing and targeting, and dismantle illicit finance operations. White House Office of National Drug Control (ONDCP) Director Dr. Rahul Gupta took to the airwaves to announce this funding for the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Program.

KNDO/KNDU (NBC Yakima, WA): Washington gets $5 million in federal funding to fight fentanyl

Dr. Rahul Gupta, the Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy announced the $5,031,349 in funding for the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) Program for Washington on May 31. The Northwest HIDTA Region, which is based completely in Washington State, will use the funding to address drug trafficking and the deadly effects of the fentanyl epidemic, according to a press release from Rep. Kim Schrier’s Office.

WBFF (FOX Baltimore, MD): Maryland receives over $16 million to combat drug crisis and support addiction recovery

On Thursday, the Maryland delegation announced $16,587,073 in funding from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy to bolster addiction treatment resources and support law enforcement agencies’ efforts to tackle illicit drugs in Maryland communities.
