A Call to Action During Mental Health Awareness Month
Dr. Jackie Ward, OSTP Assistant Director for Community Connected Health
Mental health challenges affect all of us. This May, the Biden-Harris Administration acknowledges everyone who faces mental health challenges. As part of his unity agenda for the nation, President Biden has prioritized tackling the mental health crisis. In 2022, President Biden released a comprehensive mental health strategy designed to strengthen system capacity, connect more people to care, and create healthier environments. The Biden-Harris Administration has and will continue to invest critical resources to expand mental health and substance use support to Americans, including through the proposed President’s budget for Fiscal Year 2024. To support this work and help advance how we transform mental health in the United States, the White House published a first-of-its-kind Report on Mental Health Research Priorities to outline needs and opportunities in mental health research.
The Administration’s actions to date are making a difference in communities across the country, but there is much more to do, and we cannot do it alone. We need your help to drive mental health research and innovation forward.
We are calling on you and your organizations to share the actions you are taking to support mental health research. To support this call to action, please email brainhealth@ostp.eop.gov (in 500 words or less) by May 31, 2023 with new actions or collaborations you or your organization plan to take to support or advance mental health research.
Thank you to all of the individuals, advocates, scientists, organizations, and researchers who work to prevent, diagnose, treat, and destigmatize mental health conditions.
