Office of National Drug Control Policy Convenes Senior Government Leaders to Advance Drug Interdiction Efforts
The Interdiction Committee Principals Meeting Included Officials from the Departments of State, Treasury, War, Justice, Homeland Security, and the Intelligence Community
On Tuesday, April 14, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) hosted The Interdiction Committee (TIC) Principals Meeting. The session brought together senior government leaders to advance President Trump’s Drug Policy Priorities. The focus of the meeting was to align federal operations to reduce the amount of illicit drugs entering American communities and save lives. Officials from the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, the Department of War, the Department of the Treasury, the Department of State, and the Intelligence Community participated in the session.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are strengthening our borders to keep illicit drugs out of our country,” said Drug Czar Sara Carter. “Every drug interdiction saves lives, protects our communities, and provides the intelligence we need to dismantle the Foreign Terrorist Organizations responsible for this crisis.”
The agenda covered topics related to current illicit drug supply reduction operations. Participants discussed emerging threat vectors for fentanyl and synthetic drugs. They also reviewed methods to integrate intelligence from interdictions to investigations to target criminal networks. The committee reviewed the data systems used to track seizures across the government and signed the updated committee charter to guide operations for the upcoming year.
“The Interdiction Committee is where policy and operations collide. We know that every interdiction, every arrest, and every successful prosecution is an opportunity for law enforcement and the intelligence community to combat cartel operations, their supply chains, and the illicit financing that fuels it all,” said U.S. Interdiction Coordinator and Committee Chairperson Daniel Boatright.
By aligning the resources of the federal government, ONDCP continues to lead the national mission to reduce the availability of illegal drugs in the United States.
