ONDCP Elevates DFC Youth Voices During Primary Prevention Month with New Partnerships with Major League Baseball and Song for Charlie
ONDCP’s Youth Prevention Champions will reach new audiences as MLB and Song for Charlie commit to amplifying healthy, drug-free living nationwide.
On August 27, the Trump administration’s Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) convened Youth Prevention Champions from Drug-Free Communities (DFC) funded coalitions across the country alongside Major League Baseball (MLB) and Song for Charlie (SFC) for a roundtable focused on creating a Drug-Free America. This event furthers the Trump Administration’s commitment to protect children and communities by preventing illicit drug use before it starts.
The event showcased a series of youth-created public service announcements developed by ONDCP’s Youth Prevention Champions (YPC)—young leaders committed to strengthening prevention in their communities and using their voices to positively influence their peers. The videos speak directly to young people about issues that affect their everyday lives—including physical and mental well-being, healthy coping, connection, resilience, and making healthy, drug-free choices.
“In this great nation, our most precious resource is our children,” said ONDCP Director Sara Carter. “The young people in these videos are showing their peers that choosing to live drug-free allows for limitless opportunities. By joining forces with partners such as Major League Baseball and Song for Charlie, we can carry their voices into homes, schools, communities, and ballparks across America—and continue to promote drug-free living.”
As part of the effort, Major League Baseball and Song for Charlie have committed to helping expand the reach of ONDCP’s Youth Prevention Champions’ messages by sharing and cross-promoting YPC-created PSAs through their social media networks, reaching millions of followers and fans.
MLB will also make select YPC PSAs available for display in Major League ballparks during the upcoming MLB Postseason, providing an extraordinary opportunity for youth-created prevention messages to reach families and baseball fans on one of America’s biggest stages.
The Youth Prevention Champions initiative advances the goals of ONDCP’s National Drug Control Strategy by elevating primary prevention, strengthening youth engagement, and mobilizing communities and partners around a shared goal: preventing substance use before it starts.
Through partnerships with youth, families, schools, community coalitions, sports organizations, and other trusted messengers, ONDCP is working to build a culture in which healthy choices are supported, young people are empowered to lead, and America is freed from the shackles of illicit drug use and addiction.
