About the National Science and Technology Council
The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) is the President’s principal mechanism for coordinating science and technology (S&T) policy across the Federal Government. Chaired by the President and led by the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and OSTP Director, the NSTC convenes senior officials to:
- Coordinate science and technology policymaking;
- Ensure science and technology policy decisions and programs are consistent with the President’s stated goals;
- Help integrate the President’s science and technology policy agenda across the Federal Government;
- Ensure science and technology are considered in the development and implementation of Federal policies and programs; and
- Further international cooperation in science and technology.
Through the NSTC, the Executive Branch develops and executes coordinated, cross-agency science and technology strategies that advance core national priorities, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, space exploration, nuclear energy, and other critical and emerging technologies. The Council brings together the highest-level Federal S&T leaders to establish clear national goals for science, technology, and innovation that strengthen America’s economic competitiveness, national security, and long-term strategic advantage.
