Industrial Innovation
The Industrial Innovation team applies scientific and technical expertise to implement the President’s Investing in America agenda. The Biden-Harris Administration’s historic investments across the American Rescue Plan, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act form the foundation of a modern American industrial strategy. This strategy leverages critical advanced and emerging technologies to revitalize U.S. manufacturing, bolster national security, and enable a clean energy economy for all. This team works to advance innovation so everyone in America can benefit from our nation’s technologies. This includes:
- Accelerating the deployment of emerging technologies, including clean energy, biomanufacturing, and semiconductors, by reducing costs, improving performance, accelerating adoption, and increasing production. This includes leading a national net-zero innovation strategy for early-stage clean energy technologies, developing a bold decadal vision for commercial fusion energy, supporting the launch of ARPA-I, leading implementation of the Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation executive order, working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and energy, and advancing a robust domestic microelectronics ecosystem.
- Creating new possibilities for all of America to participate in the 21st century economy, through place-based innovation investments across programs like the National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines, Economic Development Administration’s Tech Hubs, and the White House Workforce Hubs, which catalyze local public-private partnerships to supercharge regional technology strengths, create high-quality jobs, and unlock new capabilities to address national challenges.
- Developing analyses, models, and tools to better understand, inform, and communicate strategic American technology deployment domestically and internationally.
The Industrial Innovation team is led by OSTP Deputy Director Justina Gallegos.
