White House Releases Drug Threat Notice on Deadly Fentanyl Analogues
Fentanyl Analogues Including Carfentanil (Elephant Tranquilizer), Fluorofentanyl, and Methylfentanyl Pose Deadly Threat to Americans in Every Region of the U.S.
| Washington, D.C. – Today, the Office of National Drug Control Policy released a Drug Threat Notice to warn the public about the deadly threat posed by fentanyl analogues due to their increasing prevalence and potency. Carfentanil, fluorofentanyl, and methylfentanyl are as potent or more potent than fentanyl, with carfentanil being up to 100 times more potent. The CDC estimates indicate these three fentanyl analogues were involved in at least 12,500 deaths since 2023. “President Trump has taken historic action to stop the flow of fentanyl into our country,” said Drug Czar Sara Carter, “Drug traffickers continue to produce and smuggle deadly substances into the United States. This designation and accompanying notice provide the American people, first responders, and medical professionals with actionable information to protect themselves and their loved ones.” President Trump’s leadership has led to a historic decrease in drug overdose deaths. His National Drug Control Strategy, released in May 2026, is a road map for the United States to defeat the scourge of illicit drugs and achieve a safe and healthy America, where a drug-free life is the prevailing norm. The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy sets federal drug policy and tracks emerging drug threats.
