Presidential Message on National Preparedness Month
America has always been a nation of strong, capable, and determined people who understand that strength must be built before crisis. Preparedness builds that strength, and readiness is the result. This National Preparedness Month, I call on every American citizen to ready themselves and their families, homes, businesses, and communities for natural and man-made threats.
Readiness begins with understanding the risks that matter most. Before a crisis, Americans can take practical steps to protect their homes and property, purchase affordable insurance against the risks they face, know evacuation routes, maintain an emergency kit with essential supplies, and stay informed through trusted local news and real-time alerts. These simple investments save lives, protect livelihoods, and help families and communities return to normal.
The same principle applies to the systems that power our Nation. American businesses and operators of critical infrastructure have an essential role and must also be ready. The energy, communications, transportation, financial, water, food, and health systems that power American life must remain available when we need them most. My Administration is working to strengthen the reliability of these systems, secure vital supply chains, reduce dangerous dependencies, and ensure services continue operating through crisis.
On June 23, 2026, I issued the National Resilience Strategy that articulates how the Nation, through federalism, will achieve a readiness posture. As President, my Administration continues transforming emergency management in the United States around readiness, responsibility, and results. States and communities must participate in this transformation by building their own fiscal and operational capacity to manage the emergencies they routinely face and support one another through mutual aid, drastically speeding up deployment and delivery of critical resources when disaster strikes. Americans deserve state and local governments that respond quickly to their needs, enabling communities to rebuild stronger and more resilient than ever before. This allows the Federal Government to concentrate its resources on the greatest risks and catastrophic incidents—regionally or nationally. It also makes our country harder to threaten. When America functions through crisis, our adversaries have fewer opportunities to harm us and fewer opportunities to achieve their objectives.
Strength begins with a Nation that is ready to act and such readiness is embodied by Americans who stand strong, who never back down, and who always put America First. This month, we honor our brave first responders, law enforcement officers, emergency personnel, and selfless volunteers. When the alarm sounds, they do not hesitate. They answer the call, protect their fellow Americans, and help keep our communities and our Nation safe and secure. Together, we resolve to build a more prepared, ready, and resilient America.
