President Trump Calls on Congress to Save College Sports

President Donald J. Trump is calling on Congress to pass the Protect College Sports Act and bring clarity, stability, and accountability back to college athletics.

Just this weekend, President Trump was at Neyland Stadium for the blockbuster Texas–Tennessee college football game where the crowd erupted in celebration of his attendance. President Trump has tremendous respect for the determination and strength of our great athletes and the traditions that make college sports uniquely American. That is why President Trump has been a champion for this legislation and fighting to protect this proud American institution—supporting hundreds of thousands of student-athletes.

Years of litigation and uncertainty over NIL, eligibility, transfers, and revenue sharing have created a system without clear, consistent rules. The Administration is calling on Congress to establish reasonable guardrails and clear rules and put the Protect College Sports Act on President Trump’s desk.

We cannot turn back the clock, but we can protect the future of college sports and make sure opportunities remain available to student-athletes across America.

President Trump believes wholeheartedly that college sports are worth fighting for—for the athletes, the schools, the fans, and America. Scholarships, roster spots, women’s and Olympic sports, and the traditions millions of Americans cherish are on the line.

President Trump has been leading this fight to protect college sports and America’s athletes.

  • In April, President Trump signed an additional Executive Order to restore order, fairness, and stability to college athletics. He has also brought athletes, coaches, schools, and sports leaders to the White House to address the challenges facing college sports.
  • In 2025, President Trump signed an Executive Order to protect student-athletes and collegiate athletic scholarships and opportunities, including in Olympic and non-revenue programs, and the unique American institution of college sports.
  • The Trump Administration rescinded the Biden Administration’s overly burdensome and profoundly unfair NIL guidance that treated NIL agreements between schools and students like financial aid to be distributed between male and female athletes proportionally under Title IX. 
  • President Trump signed an executive order to protect women’s sports by keeping biological men out of them.
  • President Trump convened a college sports roundtable at the White House with leading sports figures from across the sports landscape to address the future of the industry.

The greatest threat is inaction and uncertainty—Congress must act now to establish clear, fair rules for NIL and protect the future of college athletics.
