White House Honors Frontline Heroes at 2026 United States Interdiction Coordinator Awards Ceremony

Ceremony Honors 2025 Achievements in Dismantling Transnational Cartels, Securing Borders, and Protecting American Families

Washington, DC – Today, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) hosted the 2026 United States Interdiction Coordinator (USIC) Awards Ceremony in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Presided over by ONDCP Director Sara Carter and U.S. Interdiction Coordinator Victor Avila, the ceremony recognized twelve exceptional federal, state, local, and international counter-drug teams for extraordinary courage and operational excellence during Calendar Year 2025.

The annual ceremony highlighted the Trump Administration’s whole-of-government strategy to dismantle transnational criminal cartels, secure our nation’s borders, and drive historic declines in drug overdose deaths across the United States. Key to this strategy is the integration of frontline interdiction operations across land, sea, air, and cyber domains directly into the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) framework, which is the government’s mechanism to coordinate multi-agency investigations targeting cartel command networks.

“The men and women we honor today are the frontline shield of our nation,” said ONDCP Director Sara Carter. “President Trump’s historic actions are protecting our nation. From provisional overdose deaths dropping below 68,000 to unprecedented interdiction milestones, our whole-of-government approach is delivering results in the fight against illicit drugs. By combining aggressive supply reduction with real-time chemical surveillance and strong task force investigations, we are breaking cartel networks and saving American lives.”

“Interdiction does not occur in a vacuum,” said U.S. Interdiction Coordinator Victor Avila. “When a patrol boat intercepts a narco-vessel, or an officer seizes illicit fentanyl powder at a port of entry, that tactical success feeds crucial intelligence directly into our Homeland Security Task Forces. Today we recognize the dedicated professionals who turn frontline seizures into strategic victories that dismantle criminal cartels from root to branch.”

During the ceremony, awards were presented across twelve operational categories, highlighting historic milestones from 2025 including:

• Maritime Enforcement: A record-breaking year by the U.S. Coast Guard, seizing over 230,000 kilograms of U.S.-bound cocaine in the Western Hemisphere, alongside high-seas operations like Operation Salty Iguana by the crew of USCGC Stone and HITRON.
• Border and Chemical Interdiction: The interception of high-potency fentanyl powder by U.S. Customs and Border Protection representing over 1.2 billion lethal doses prevented from entering American neighborhoods.
• Cyber and Darknet Operations: Multi-agency task force victories, including DEA’s Operation Loyal Business and Operation Ghost Town, which dismantled darknet pill presses and seized millions of fentanyl doses and illicit firearms.
• International and Financial Disruptions: Cross-border partnerships that took down 46 clandestine super-labs in Mexico (Operation Hydra) and stripped 60 million dollars in illicit cryptocurrency proceeds from the Sinaloa Cartel and CJNG (Operation Amalgamate).
